About Deane

Deane URC was built on its present site more than 110 years ago when the foundation stone was laid on                      8th September 1900.

Prior to 2004, the fabric of the church had been sadly neglected over many years.  Lots of discussion took place and astronomical sums of money were mentioned but nothing of practical use had been done.  This changed when a new building committee was formed and ‘self-help’ became a byword.  Contributions from the members allowed a new kitchen to be installed with a view of it being an asset in the expansion of the  church’s facilities.

A succession of grants were obtained and these, together with church income, have resulted in a bright and cheerful building with  new toilets, new kitchen, refurbished flooring, new carpets and  new chairs plus many other minor improvements.  The garden has been landscaped, railings have been fitted and the whole of the exterior has been re-pointed and painted.  The Minister’s vestry and the Choir vestry had roofs refurbished in 2008.  Ministers and others who have not seen refurbishments before say it has the ‘wow’ factor!

This resulted in an abundance of ‘Lettings’ which provided a steady income until the present downturn.  We have an operatic society and a Sequence dance group using the church.
